All these questions could be handled eventually and put off for now
by having the arrow be a graphical only symbol that has a default name which can be
reassigned by the user on a drawing by drawing basis and the wire connects to its origin. Such symbols
would best be deleted as you go when you delete a line/path/wire that has them on its ends.
If you want to get fancier than one arrow style per drawing and wire/lines with
sharp 90 degree bends, maybe inkscape is already way
better than gschem and you don't need to write it...
