So you got your own distribution? What is that?

Cairo (which is used in normal and high quality mode) does not seems to 
require that much CPU or memory. What it _is_ sensitive to is the 
graphical card you use or, mostly, how good the X driver is for your 
graphical card.

I will not mention names, but there are big brands you should avoid like 
the plague (yeah yeah, Swedish expression). ;) Other card needs the 
proprietary X drivers to work properly with Cairo etc.
