Sure, there is no need to run g[sym|sch]update on "version 1" files
(which you will have). As you save them with the latest gEDA, you'll
probably be ending up with "version 2" files, which aside from path
support are completely compatible with version 1.

I didn't really phrase my question very well to the -dev list.. it
should be..

"What were g[sym|sch]update used for in the past, and are they ever
likely to be relevant again?"
