Well, in my designs the printout contains schematics, descriptive
documentation, bill of materials, etc. It's the Makefile's
responsibility to perform the necessary machinations to assemble all
of these into a document. That can include using formatting tools to
make the text pretty.
For big connectors, I sometimes like to print two views: one sorted
by pin number and one sorted by net name. Trivial if the information
is in a three column file.
It's also easier to edit text in a text file than to edit text in a
graphics file.
For me, radical flexibility is gEDA's great strength. Separating
textual and graphical design information would, from my point of
view, keep and enhance that strength here.
