OK, if I disappoint, make sure and tell me and I'll go back in for

I've always liked Gtk because it provides a porting layer from the
ground up starting with glib.  In my other projects I've been able
to avoid auto build tools and simply use pkg-config in makefiles...
although this could open another discussion which I'll bow out of
right now.
