Ok, the big max_layers patch (mine and Bill's) is in. I fixed some things with layer manipulation that Bill mentioned, it all seems to work OK to me. The only glitch I saw was that I couldn't close the Gtk preferences dialog after fiddling with layers for a while. I'll mention it on geda-user.
