The best tool is the one you write yourself and are happy and productive within.
If it only works on linux which is the system you're using, then so be it.
In Debian, dependencies are no problem. On a latest and greatest Sid system,
you very rarely might need to do some more manual fixing, but it is never hard
when you know how. A small price to pay for freedom from a jailed proprietory
environment.
